1. SkyTrak Plus SIG10 Golf Simulator Package

SkyTrak Plus (ST+) SIG10 Golf Simulator Package

Budget: Mid-high (around $10,000+)

This simulator ranks #1 because it performed well across all of our rating criteria. Some sample criteria is included below along with their scores.

You can count on this fantastic simulator package, designed by The Indoor Golf Shop, to dial in your swing and take your game to the next level.

Featuring the next generation of the SkyTrak, the SkyTrak Plus (ST+) launch monitor, it’s ideal for those who want to spend four figures or less, who want outstanding value for money, and who have enough space to accommodate a slightly larger setup.

The ST+ system makes a number of improvements over the original SkyTrak including the addition of club data, a faster processor, greatly improved outdoor performance, and additional courses in the software. Best of all, no club or ball stickers are needed to measure any data points!

What Is Included

The SkyTrak+ SIG10 package consists of the SkyTrak+ Launch Monitor and a high-quality SIG10 simulator screen and enclosure (designed by The Indoor Golf Shop) that is handcrafted in the USA.

The ST+ adds a new dual Doppler radar system which combines with an improved photometric camera system and machine-learning software to bring the ST+ to a new level of accuracy and comprehensive data measurement.

Also included are:

  • your choice of a hitting mat (5’x5′, 4’x7′ or 4’x10′)
  • golf simulator projector
  • ceiling projector mount
  • landing pad turf

A nice bonus is that it includes a subscription to the SkyTrak Play & Improve Plan. This is the highest tier plan offered, and it allows you to play 15 world-class World Golf Tour (WGT) golf courses and 15 E6 CONNECT courses in addition to having all other SkyTrak software features.

The projector model included in the package may change based on current supply and other factors. However, it is guaranteed to be minimum HD quality with enough lumens for a bright experience.

The choices for hitting mat are the Fairway Series 5’x5′ (provides realistic feel), SIGPRO 4’x7′ (easy on the joints, allows level unit placement), and SIGPRO 4’x10′ (center hitting strip ideal for left/right hand switching).

You can also install SIG10 Simulator Flooring — a full flooring option that consists of a hitting strip surrounded by a putting green. This is an awesome choice but is pretty expensive.

Room dimensions of 9 ft high x 12 ft wide x 16 ft deep are recommended. Get your longest club out (usually driver) and make a backswing to ensure you have enough clearance.

We love this simulator package because the studio is well-made with great aesthetics, and the ST+ launch monitor offers tremendous value for the price.

However, the original SkyTrak SIG10 package, which used to be featured here, is still very viable because it’s $1000 cheaper and still provides all the data parameters needed for a full simulator experience.

For more details about what comes with the package and the steps you need to take, visit this page.

2. Carl’s EYE XO Golf Simulator Package

Carl's Place EYE XO Select Golf Simulator Package

Budget: High (around $20,000+)

The Uneekor EYE XO is a ceiling-mounted system that has received critical acclaim. Its performance is comparable to the top systems like the GCQuad, Foresight Falcon, and even TrackMan while being considerably more affordable.

One of the best simulator studio packages to pair with the EYE XO is undoubtedly the EYE XO Package by Carl’s Place. In business since 2006, Carl’s Place has grown to be one of the most trusted indoor golf destinations in the USA.

This package is beastly. Not only does it come with a massive commercial-grade enclosure system that mounts the launch monitor to its frame, but it also includes a top-of-the-line 4K projector and a license to GSPro which many consider to be the best simulator software available.

Plus, this simulator package can be customized to the nth degree through Carl’s BYOS tool, from the enclosure size to the projector mount, hitting mat and more, so you don’t have to settle for the default components.

What Is Included

The Carl’s EYE XO Package consists of:

  • a 10’x15.5’x8′ Pro Golf C-Series Enclosure with Impact Screen
  • a Uneekor EYE XO launch monitor
  • a TrueStrike Academy hitting mat (two sides with center hitting strip)
  • a license to GSPro software
  • a BenQ LK936ST 4K laser short throw projector
  • a projector ceiling mount
  • optional accessories including swing cameras, a tripod, and camera wall mounts

The simulator technology itself is contained in the EYE XO bar, which is mounted overhead. It houses two high-speed cameras that can record at over 3000 fps, providing real-time club and ball data with the help of advanced sensors.

The included Pro Golf Enclosure isn’t just any typical enclosure. This strong, high-quality, deep enclosure is designed for commercial applications or high-end home setups and allows for mounting the EYE XO and projector directly to the frame. In addition, the screen has a unique borderless bottom for a seamless look.

The EYE XO comes with the Uneekor View software which features a photographic video playback technology called OPTIX, a 3D driving range, fitting data, a swing motion analysis tool, and more.

Upgrades are available that enable access to additional features within the View software such as full course play. In addition, the EYE XO is compatible with third party solutions The Golf Club 2019, E6 CONNECT, Creative Golf, and GSPro.

Carl’s Place recommends you swing 10-12 feet from the screen and have at least 7 feet of space on every side of you. A minimum ceiling height of 10.5 feet is required for this very large enclosure.

This is an impressive simulator setup for golfers who want to go all out on their studio. And Carl’s Place is there to help you every step of the way with personalized support, resources, and installation guides.

3. FlightScope Mevo Plus PlayBetter SimStudio Package

FlightScope Mevo Plus PlayBetter SimStudio Package

Budget: Low-mid (around $5900+)

Maybe you want a full-fledged simulator setup, but you’re on a bit of a budget and don’t want to pay more than a few thousand dollars for it. If that’s the case, then the Mevo Plus PlayBetter SimStudio Package is ideal.

This simulator package was put together by reputable golf vendor PlayBetter and is one of the most affordable full simulator setups (with screen, enclosure, projector, mat, and quality launch monitor) on the market.

This is an especially popular simulator package that enjoys a high average rating of 4.6/5 on the PlayBetter store.

What Is Included

The Mevo+ PlayBetter SimStudio Package uses the Mevo+ 2023 Edition launch monitor, which is comparable to the SkyTrak+ but is quite a bit cheaper. Also included in the base package is:

  • a PlayBetter SimStudio full hitting bay
  • an HD golf simulator projector (model may change)
  • a projector ceiling mount
  • an alignment stand (optional)
  • a ball tray

The SimStudio consists of a noise-dampening impact screen, full enclosure with blackout walls, 5’x5′ hitting mat, side barrier netting, and landing pad turf that can double as a putting surface. We’re impressed with the quality of all of the components.

The Mevo+ can be used with the free FS Golf app or FS Golf for PC, giving you real-time performance data, saving of sessions, skills challenges, and more. Access to TGC 2019, Creative Golf, Awesome Golf, and GSPro on PC is available at extra cost.

You can expect the projector included with this package to be minimum HD quality and put out enough lumens for a bright experience. Models bundled in the past include the Optoma GT1080HDR and Optoma GT2000HDR.

Your space for this setup will need to fit whatever size enclosure you choose, and you’ll need to be able to make a swing with your longest club. In addition, you’ll need at least 16 feet of depth to accommodate the radar-based Mevo+.

For full details about this simulator package, check out this page.

Power & Accuracy: 88/100

4. Carl’s ProTee VX Golf Simulator Package

Carl's ProTee VX Golf Simulator Package

Budget: Mid-high (around $10,000+)

The ProTee VX is a wonderful alternative to the EYE XO. It’s a ceiling-mounted unit that is a fair bit less expensive, but many would argue that it’s just as good.

This launch monitor has an extensive set of data parameters, high-end accuracy, a large hitting area, a super easy setup, and is compatible with the best simulator software on the market. Plus, no marked balls or club stickers are needed to get any measurements.

This package, put together by Carl’s Place, pairs the ProTee VX with Carl’s unique C-Series DIY Enclosure available in a range of different sizes.

In addition to our experience with the product, Carl’s Place is also a champion of the ProTee VX and considers it one of the best systems for the money.

What Is Included

The Carl’s ProTee VX simulator package most notably includes:

  • a ProTee VX launch monitor
  • a Carl’s Place C-Series DIY Enclosure with impact screen (two size options)
  • a Carl’s HotShot 4’x9′ hitting mat (double-sided)
  • a BenQ TH671ST 1080p short throw projector
  • a projector ceiling mount
  • a subscription to the GSPro software

The ProTee VX uses Vision and A.I. technology as part of a dual high-speed camera setup. Data is measured and displayed within a second of hitting your shot thanks to A.I. and machine learning technology.

For data viewing and analysis, the ProTee VX launch monitor comes with the ProTee Labs software which, in addition to showing all your data in an easy-to-read format, provides a slow-motion replay of the club impacting the ball for every shot.

This simulator is also compatible with third-party software solutions TGC 2019, E6 CONNECT, GSPro, Creative Golf, and ProTee Play.

The C-Series enclosure is unique compared to other enclosures because the impact screen sits flush with the floor, providing a seamless transition from turf to screen.

The included HotShot Mat — soft, high-quality and durable — has a pre-cut replaceable hitting strip that can be swapped out once sufficiently worn. Carl’s Place sells these hitting strips separately for your convenience.

The ProTee VX should be mounted about 3.5 feet (40-43 inches) in front of the hitting area and 9-10 feet above the ground. We really do believe it’s a game-changer in the launch monitor space. For full details on what’s included, go to this page.

5. Uneekor EYE MINI SIG10 Golf Simulator Package

Uneekor EYE MINI SIG10 Golf Simulator Package

Budget: Mid-high (around $11,000+)

You can think of the Uneekor EYE MINI as a portable EYE XO with an on-board display. It may not be quite as powerful as the EYE XO in terms of features and data points, but it’s considerably more affordable and its accuracy is pretty much just as good.

This package, put together by The Indoor Golf Shop, pairs the EYE MINI with their popular, high-quality SIG10 enclosure.

What Is Included

The Uneekor EYE MINI SIG10 Simulator includes the EYE MINI system along with:

  • a SIG10 simulator screen & enclosure
  • a WUXGA (1920×1200) 5000-lumens projector
  • a ceiling projector mount
  • landing pad turf
  • a choice of hitting mat (5’x5′, 4’x7′ or 4’x10′)

The EYE MINI is a portable launch monitor that contains two high-speed infrared cameras and measures an array of ball and club data. It boasts Club Optix technology which allows you to view slow-motion closeups of the club impacting the ball.

The included projector can output at 5000 lumens which will ensure a bright, vibrant image even with considerable ambient lighting in the room.

In conjunction with the Uneekor View software, you can use optional swing cameras (additional purchase) to analyze your swing from a multitude of different angles. The third-party softwares compatible with the EYE MINI are E6 CONNECT, TGC 2019, and GSPro.

To install the setup, you’ll need enough space to fit the enclosure size you choose, mount the projector, and swing your longest club (driver) unimpeded.

This fantastic golf simulator package gives you a wide range of data points, reliability, accuracy, and plenty of features for game improvement and entertainment. The portable nature of the EYE MINI means you can use it in other locations (outdoors, etc.) as well.

6. FlightScope X3 SwingBay Golf Simulator Package

FlightScope X3 SwingBay Golf Simulator Package - Updated

Budget: High (around $19,000+)

The FlightScope X3 is arguably the most powerful and accurate radar-based launch monitor on the market right now. You can think of it as a Mevo Plus on steroids, having a whole lot more capabilities and features.

The X3 has been used by pro golfers to prepare for tournaments, and you may see it in use at long drive competitions. It can be used equally well indoors or outdoors but requires metallic ball stickers for indoor spin measurements.

Featuring Rain or Shine Golf’s large SwingBay screen & enclosure, this X3 simulator package gives you everything you need to enjoy the ultimate golf simulator studio, including a optional gaming laptop configured for running software smoothly.

What Is Included

The FlightScope X3 SwingBay Simulator includes the X3 launch monitor along with:

  • a SwingBay enclosure system
  • a full HD short throw projector with high lumens

The SwingBay enclosure is designed for 4:3 projection and is built to withstand ball speeds up to 250 mph. It consists of a tightly-woven premium impact screen, commercial-grade blackout walls, and a bungee fastening system.

The X3 comes bundled with a trimmed version of E6 CONNECT (iOS or PC) which includes ten courses, 17 practice ranges, and various online games. In addition, a suite of FlightScope apps are usable with the X3 including FS Golf, FS MultiCam, and FS Short Game.

Minimum space requirements are 8.5 ft high x 10.5 ft wide x 16 ft deep, plus room to swing your longest club.

The main reason we love the X3 so much is that it’s at least as good as TrackMan 4 while costing significantly less money. In fact, this is our ultimate radar of choice that we wholeheartedly recommend if you have the budget and the space.

7. Garmin Approach R10 Home Golf Simulator Package

Garmin Approach R10 Home Golf Simulator Package

Budget: Low (around $1600+)

At just $550, the Approach R10 is the first launch monitor to measure detailed club path parameters that you could previously only get in $1800+ units. It’s also the first launch monitor in its price range to have golf simulation capabilities.

This extremely affordable package by Top Shelf Golf, which costs under $2000, pairs the R10 with a quality hitting net and hitting mat by The Net Return.

This setup is great for indoor use, but it’s also ideal for hitting balls out on the deck, on the lawn, or at outdoor events. It can be easily used with iPads & tablets.

The R10 Home Package features the R10 Launch Monitor and a trimmed iOS version of E6 CONNECT with practice ranges, a darts mini-game, and six golf courses. Also included is:

The Home Series V2 Net is basically the same as the Pro Series V2 net except it’s slightly smaller. As one of the best hitting nets on the market, it boasts automatic ball return and extreme durability that can handle shots up to 225 mph. Its dimensions are 7’H x 7’W x 3.5’D.

The Pro Turf Mat is ten feet long and provides continuous ball return from the screen back to the hitting area. It doubles as a putting green and rolls up and stores like a carpet.

Available customization options for this package include the following:

  1. You can replace the Pro Turf Mat with a Fiberbuilt hitting mat.
  2. You can replace the Home V2 Net with a Pro V2 or Pro V2 LARGE net.
  3. You can add side barrier netting.

It’s recommended to have a space that is at least 10 ft wide x 8.5 ft high x 16 ft deep to set up this package.

Even without a screen and projector, you can achieve a simulator feel by mirroring or casting your smartphone to your TV and positioning the TV behind the net.

9. Uneekor EYE MINI Lite SwingBay Golf Simulator Package

Uneekor EYE MINI Lite SwingBay Golf Simulator Package

Budget: Mid-high (around $9000+)

Uneekor’s EYE MINI launch monitor is already priced very well for what it is, but what if I told you that you could get the same power, accuracy, and data points that the EYE MINI offers at just 60% of the cost?

Enter the EYE MINI Lite. It uses the same fundamental tracking technology of the EYE MINI, but because it lacks an onboard display, must be connected to a power source at all times, and lacks some other features, it can be priced at under $3000, bringing it within reach of many more golfers.

This turnkey package by Rain or Shine Golf pairs the EYE MINI Lite with their full-sized SwingBay enclosure. We think it’s one of the best EYE MINI Lite sim packages on the market today.

What Is Included

The EYE MINI Lite SwingBay Simulator includes the EYE MINI Lite system along with:

  • a SwingBay enclosure system
  • a full HD (1080p) short throw projector with high lumens
  • a projector ceiling mount or floor mount enclosure (your choice)
  • a SwingTurf hitting mat (5’x5′ or 9’x4′)
  • landing pad turf (optional)
  • side barrier netting
  • a gaming laptop optimized for golf simulation (optional)

Like the EYE MINI, the EYE MINI Lite boasts dual high-speed infrared cameras, Club Optix, and all the other benefits that can be accessed via the Uneekor View software.

The system is compatible with E6 CONNECT, TGC 2019, and GSPro, but you’ll need Uneekor’s Pro or Champion package to unlock third-party connectivity. These packages also unlock more profiles and sessions and give you access to Uneekor’s Refine+ software.

The included SwingTurf hitting mat (5’x4′) was designed by Rain or Shine Golf to provide an optimal balance between realistic fairway feel and forgiveness. An upgrade to a larger 9’x4′ SwingTurf mat is available.

Minimum space requirements for this setup are 8.5 ft high x 11 ft wide x 16 ft deep, plus room to swing your longest club.

Many people consider the EYE MINI Lite to be a “SkyTrak+ killer”, although its major disadvantage is that it’s basically only usable indoors and has no Wi-Fi capability.

12. Golfzon TwoVision Golf Simulator

Golfzon TwoVision Golf Simulator

Budget: High (around $40,000+)

Golfzon is an award-winning golf simulator company with a presence in 60+ countries. There are over 3.2 million online Golfzon members worldwide, and over 65 million rounds are played on Golfzon simulators every year.

The TwoVision is Golfzon’s newest, greatest, most advanced simulator yet. It’s an all-in-one, plug-and-play system that is designed to provide the most immersive experience on the market.

The Golfzon TwoVision simulator features a large hitting bay with:

  • three or four high-speed T4 sensors
  • a full HD projector
  • a teeside kiosk with touch screen
  • a 24-position swing plate
  • an auto tee and ball retrieval system
  • an LED green-read putting guide
  • divot-sensing technology
  • a virtual caddy

The T4 sensors are an upgrade from older sensors used in previous-generation Golfzon simulators. Providing detailed club and ball data, there are two on the ceiling, one built into the kiosk, and optionally one for left-handed players.

The sensors capture 400 frames per second at the moment of impact; the one built into the kiosk allows the system to collect even more detailed data including your divot patterns.

Perhaps the signature feature of the TwoVision is a hydraulic swing plate that not only emulates a range of different surfaces including fairway, first cut, rough, and bunker, but also can move into 24 different positions that recreate true course contours and uneven surfaces.

You also have access to a Virtual Caddy that offers tips and tricks, as well as an LED guide that helps you aim your putts. These are truly unique features that you won’t find anywhere else.

The TwoVision uses Golfzon’s exclusive TwoVision software. Said to be 130% crisper than previous software, it offers six different game modes, online network golf tournaments, and allows you to play over 200 accurately rendered golf courses from around the world.

Don’t want to pay more than a couple hundred dollars for a simulator system? On a very low budget? One of your best bets is the SLX MicroSim, formerly the Tittle X.

It’s an excellent alternative to the OptiShot 2 that most people feel has better accuracy and is more geared towards game improvement.

The SLX MicroSim takes features of simulator equipment worth thousands of dollars and miniaturizes them into a 7.9g device. The latest version uses the E6 CONNECT simulator software by TruGolf, which is one of the best available.

The SLX MicroSim isn’t designed to use any balls. It comes with a sensor and a toy stick for swinging, although you can swing your own clubs with foam balls or even hit real balls into a net if you want.

This golf simulator is child and beginner friendly. We recommend it for recreational golfers.

Note: We previously featured the Rapsodo R-Motion system on our list, but we bumped it off because it has been discontinued. SLX MicroSim, in contrast, has made an effort to keep their own system up-to-date and improve their software.

How It Works

To use the SLX MicroSim golf simulator, you need to mount the SLX MicroSim sensor (included) onto your own club or the included swing stick.

Setup involves quite a few steps, but fortunately, SLX MicroSim provides a detailed guide to walk you through the process. You need to:

  1. Register the device.
  2. Install E6 CONNECT on PC or iOS.
  3. Prepare the device.
  4. Establish some connections.
  5. Start playing by waiting for vibrations from the device.

With the E6 CONNECT software integration, you can play 3D-rendered real-world golf courses in 4K resolution and practice on the range. There are various play modes and you can sign up for a low-cost subscription to get 40 additional courses and mini-games.

For a complete picture of how to set up the SLX MicroSim and what you can do with the E6 CONNECT software, refer to the user manual.

Not only is the SLX MicroSim impressively accurate given its cost, but it also delivers great entertainment thanks to the ultra-realistic (4K) graphics. See what people are saying about it here.

Budget: High (around $60,000+)

Perhaps you’ve seen or heard about those golf simulators with surreal, super-immersive curved screens and state-of-the-art hardware.

If that type of simulator interests you, look no further than the Curve simulator by aboutGOLF.

As implied by the name, Curve features a 180-degree screen curved around the player, providing a panoramic rendering of golf courses that is sure to leave you marveling in amazement.

Unsurprisingly, the price of the aG Curve is steep — well over $60,000. But if you have the budget or financing to accommodate it, you’ll be able to reap serious rewards from it, not to mention impress the heck out of your friends.

How It Works

First off, the Curve simulator uses the exclusive 3Trak camera tracking system. Dozens of images are captured of your swing, and precise ball and club data are measured through machine vision technology.

An aG Curve simulator can be custom-made for any space. It supports 4K HD projection, with custom lighting (automatic & dimmable), a high-performance computer, turf, and tee box.

The simulator optionally comes with a few powerful add-on features, including (but not limited to):

15. SkyTrak Practice Golf Simulator Package

SkyTrak Practice Golf Simulator Package - Updated

Budget: Low-mid (around $3000+)

Despite the release of the beastly new SkyTrak+, the original SkyTrak is still a very attractive launch monitor because it’s more affordable and the ball data it provides is all you need for an optimal simulator experience.

To that end, the SkyTrak Practice Simulator is perfect for those who have a medium budget and prefer a net setup that is more affordable and takes up less space than a screen & enclosure.

This simulator package pairs the SkyTrak with either the SwingNet Lite or SwingNet Pro hitting net, each of which have their strengths and weaknesses. It’s a very portable setup that can be moved around as needed.

Whether you’re a skilled golfer or a high-handicapper that wants to get better, this package gives you everything you need to improve your game, regardless of the season or weather.

What Is Included

The SkyTrak Practice package features the SkyTrak Launch Monitor and Game Improvement Plan along with your choice of the:

  • SwingNet Pro Golf Net: 7 ft x 7 ft, powder-coated rust-resistant aluminum frame, push-button assembly, 10ply 1″ heavy-duty polyester netting
  • SwingNet Lite Golf Net: 7 ft x 9 ft, easy assembly, more affordable, hanging hitting target included

Also included are:

  • a protective case for the SkyTrak
  • a choice of SwingTurf hitting mat (5’x4′ or 9’x4′)
  • landing pad turf (optional)
  • a gaming laptop optimized for golf simulation (optional)

The SkyTrak comes with an out-of-the-box driving range, but if you want to do more than just practice on the range, you can get separate simulation plans at extra cost. Two of the best ones are The Golf Club 2019 and E6 CONNECT, which allow course play, online play, multiplayer, challenges, and more.

The minimum space requirements are 8.5 ft high x 8.5 ft wide x 10 ft deep. Setup is pretty easy, and you can contact support anytime if you need help.

The SkyTrak Practice package is very popular; people just love it, and it’s relatively affordable too. We think it’s a great choice for golfers that want to stick their toe into the world of golf simulation but don’t want to go all out just yet.

Buying Guide

A golf simulator can be a huge investment. Because of this, it’s important to consider all the factors that will affect your experience and match it with what your goals are.

Here are the most important factors you need to consider when figuring out what golf simulator will best meet your needs:

1. Size

White Measuring Tape

Size is a very important factor in golf simulators.

Generally speaking, the more expensive the simulator, the larger the footprint the studio will take up. A full screen, enclosure and turf will likely require the most space, while a practice net will require less space.

In any case, you need enough space for the simulator setup and to swing your longest club (driver) unimpeded.

You need to measure the width, length and height of your space and compare it to the minimum space requirements of every golf simulator you look at. If you’re using a projector, also consider how far away you’ll be mounting it from the screen to produce the image you want, and factor that into the depth.

Practically all full golf simulator setups will require a bare minimum of eight feet of ceiling height, but you should strive for at least nine feet.

Width allowance is usually a minimum of ten feet, and depth allowance is usually a minimum of twelve feet, although launch monitors like the Mevo+ and Full Swing KIT need more depth. Whether you want to use your simulator outdoors or indoors, your space should be able to easily accommodate this.

2. Portability

Figure pushing a cog

Another thing to consider is ease of transport. In general, more expensive simulators are less portable, although this certainly isn’t a hard and fast rule.

The first matter is the launch monitor or tracking system. Ceiling-mounted launch monitors like the ProTee VX, QED or EYE XO are not portable, nor are systems that run sensors underneath the floor.

On the other hand, freestanding units like the GC3, EYE MINI or SkyTrak+ can be easily moved around as needed. An exception is the EYE MINI Lite which must be connected to a power source at all times.

Then there’s everything else. If you don’t have at least a net or mat, mobility is not an issue at all. Net setups are usually easy to set up, take down and transport. Screen and projector setups are usually less portable, but they can still be moved around.

Some simulator packages come with retractable screens, which is ideal for garages and basements.

Do you plan to have a dedicated place where your golf simulator will always be located, or will there be times when you need to move it?

Maybe you travel periodically and want to be able to easily take it with you. Maybe you just want to pack it away during the summer, when weather permits getting out to the driving range or golf course.

If you plan to move your simulator around often, you certainly don’t want a ceiling-mounted or ground-based system. You also may not want a full simulator setup with screen and projector unless it’s marketed as retractable. If you’re planning to invest in a net only, then make sure that transporting it is straightforward.

3. Tracking

OptiShot Swing Pad

Consider the tracking system that measures your ball and club data. Is it the SkyTrak, TruTrack, Approach R10, Uneekor EYE XO, GCQuad, or something else?

Of course, some tracking systems are better than others, which is where much of the price difference comes from.

For example, while the SLX MicroSim is very inexpensive, its sensor is never going to be as accurate or produce as many detailed data parameters as systems that cost at least 10x more.

The mid-tier SkyTrak is excellent in comparison, but many people don’t like its shot delay, which can be up to a few seconds long. The SkyTrak+ improves on this shot delay but not by a whole lot.

Then there are top-tier professional systems like the GCQuad and EYE XO. These are generally going to give you the most accurate and most reliable output, with the shortest lag between the shot being hit and the ball flight showing in the software.

It’s also worth mentioning two of the main types of tracking systems: photometric and radar. In general, radar tracking is more reliable outdoors but requires more space around the golfer, while photometric (camera-based) tracking really shines indoors.

Generally (but not always), the more expensive the simulator, the better the tracking system. Look into the performance of each and decide how you weigh the importance of entertainment vs. game improvement.

4. Software

E6 Golf Logo

You should also consider what kinds of things you want to do, games you want to play, and activities you want to take part in on your golf simulator.

Different simulator systems will support different software, but some golf simulators can only be used with a specific in-house solution.

For example, SkyTrak has software in three membership levels:

  • Basic Plan: gives you a practice driving range.
  • Game-Improvement Plan: gives you minigames, numeric display, and many other advanced features.
  • Play & Improve Plan: gives you all features of other plans plus 15 E6 CONNECT courses and full integration with WGT (World Golf Tour).

Some of the best third-party simulator software solutions out there include:

  • GSPro: boasts ultra-realistic physics and graphics and offers practice, full course play, virtual online tours, and the ability to design your own course and make it available to the community as a free download.
  • The Golf Club 2019: has 4K resolution support and offers a ton of golf courses, live tours and tournaments, as well as a tool that allows you to build your own golf courses.
  • E6 CONNECT: highly customizable software that offers various course simulations, minigames, training aids, tournaments, and more.
  • Ignite/View, Refine and Refine+ (formerly Succeed): Uneekor’s in-house software that provides a 3D driving range, various practice modes, course modes, game modes, and more.

Other software possibilities include FSX, ProTee Golf 2.0, Creative Golf, Fitness Golf, Awesome Golf, and OptiShot Orion.

What software features do you see yourself using most often? Do you just want to practice on the range, play world-class courses, or both? Do you want a more serious experience, or a fun, entertaining, kid-friendly experience?

Consider what software options are available when looking at simulators, and make your decisions accordingly.

5. Budget

Money bag

This may be the last factor listed in the buying guide, but it’s one of the most important.

Not everyone can afford golf simulator packages that cost $10,000+, and fortunately, there are options that cost well below this amount.

With that said, it’s important to realize that the less you spend, the less you’ll usually get, both in terms of hardware and software.

In this guide, we’ve tried to include quality golf simulators over a wide range of budgets that golfers might have. But the great thing is that you don’t have to drop the full cost of a simulator at once.

Our recommended golf simulator source here provides easy financing options that allow you to pay for your golf simulator over the course of a year or longer. Don’t forget about this option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a golf simulator improve your game?

Absolutely. A golf simulator is probably the best way to improve your game aside from getting out to the driving range or the golf course.

In our experience, the greatest value of golf simulators lies in being able to improve your ballstriking for irons and woods in the mid and long game.

And the advantage it has over real play is that you can easily measure the progress you’re making with data points produced by your launch monitor as well as analyze your stats with things like dispersion maps and averages.

Having said that, golf simulators tend to be less useful for improving aspects of your short game like chipping and putting, as most golf simulators are not designed with these parts of the game in mind. For these short touch-based shots, it may be better to practice in the real world.

Where can you buy a golf simulator online?

There are a number of excellent online sellers out there that will be able to accommodate your golf simulator needs.

Our top recommendations are The Indoor Golf Shop, Carl’s Place, Rain or Shine Golf, Top Shelf Golf, and PlayBetter.

You can choose any of these vendors based on your preferences and on what they offer. All have excellent support teams that will go out of their way to ensure you’re set up properly.

How much do golf simulators cost?

A golf simulator can cost anywhere from around $150 all the way up to more than $70,000, but good ones that allow you to seriously improve your game tend to start at around $10,000.

The cost will vary based on many factors including features, software, launch monitor, and the equipment included. We address this question in detail in this article.

How much space do you need for a golf simulator?

This depends entirely on the system. Generally speaking, you should strive for a space with 9 feet of ceiling height, 12 feet of width, and 16-18 feet of depth — this should work for most setups.

First and foremost, you need enough space to fit the net or simulator enclosure. Enclosures and nets come in a wide variety of sizes, and you can even have a custom enclosure made to fit your space.

You also need:

  • enough space to swing your longest club freely
  • enough depth to accommodate the mounting location for the projector
  • enough space behind you, in front of you, and above you (ceiling height) to accommodate any launch monitor requirements

We cover this topic in detail in this article.

How accurate are golf simulators?

Good golf simulators are generally very accurate, but accuracy differs depending on the quality of the system and other factors.

Lower-end simulators may be around 85-90% accurate to real life.

The best simulators, on the other hand, can closely reflect reality within 1% as long as they’re set up correctly. These systems have undergone rigorous testing and are relied upon by pro golfers, coaches and club fitters around the world.

We address this question in more detail in this article.

Whether you’re looking to improve your game, have fun with friends, or grow a successful simulator business, a reliable golf simulator is a huge asset. Whatever the reason is for wanting the best golf simulator, there are many quality options for you to consider.

If money isn’t an issue, look into top-of-the-line offerings like the GCQuad SIG10.

If you do have a specific budget, there are many great simulator systems out there that can accommodate you like the SkyTrak+, Mevo+, Approach R10, EYE MINI, or Bushnell Launch Pro. There are even options for people who have budgets in the three figures.

Finding a simulator package that can meet your needs is certainly possible with some research. We’ve given you the information you need to make a decision; now it’s up to you to go the rest of the way.

While it’s likely that no golf simulator setup will tick every one of your boxes, some will come pretty close to doing so.

If possible, read consumer and professional reviews of golf simulators to acquire useful insights as to how they actually perform. This will help you a lot in the decision-making process.
