Cobra OPTM LS Driver - 3 Perspectives

In this review, I’ll be taking a comprehensive look at the Cobra OPTM LS driver.

The LS is the low-spin accuracy model in Cobra’s OPTM family of drivers, engineered with a forward CG, three-way adjustability, and a compact shape.

At the same time, a design that minimizes Products of Inertia (POI), with H.O.T. Face Technology, makes the OPTM LS more stable and forgiving than many low-spin drivers.

How does the OPTM LS actually perform when put to the test? How does it compare to the DS-ADAPT LS and OPTM X? Who is it best suited for? Is it worth putting in the bag?

Here’s what will be covered in the review:

Note: Unless otherwise stated, stock shafts and stock grips are used when evaluating this club. In most cases, the golf clubs reviewed on Golfstead are acquired temporarily for testing purposes and are not purchased. The review that follows is based on the personal experience and research of the author. Because everyone’s swing and body are different, results with a particular club may differ from person to person.

What are the reviews like?

The Cobra OPTM LS driver won a gold medal on the Golf Digest 2026 Hot List. It has been received positively overall by critics and consumers and has a 4.5/5 average rating on the Cobra store.

What People Like

  • very forgiving for a low-spin driver
  • exceptional feel
  • visually pleasing footprint at address
  • impact feel is responsive and solid

What People Don’t Like

  • DS-ADAPT LS is generally longer with slightly faster ball speeds
  • many would like even lower spin
  • look is similar to the previous generation

The Features

The OPTM LS driver has a compact, aerodynamic shape with a forward CG. The low-spin head is designed for accuracy and minimal sidespin.

At the same time, Cobra minimizes products of inertia (POI) as much as possible in an effort to achieve truer and more meaningful directional forgiveness. Cobra says that the POI is 50% less than previous models.

Other features of the OPTM LS driver include:

  • a forged face insert with H.O.T. Face technology (optimized face thickness); the result is significantly more ball speed and spin consistency across the entire face
  • an advanced descending weight system that consists of three adjustable sole weights (3g, 7g and 11g); the 11g weight can be put in the back port for more stability and a neutral flight, in the heel for a draw bias, or in the toe for a fade bias

Stock Info

The OPTM LS driver is available in  and 10.5° standard lofts at 460 CC. Also available is a shorter 44.5″ Tour Length version, built for players who want more consistent face contact.

Included is a FutureFit33 adjustable hosel that allows you to get more granular than ever before. It features 33 unique loft and lie settings that can be adjusted by ±2 degrees, and the face angle remains square in each setting thanks to a SMARTPAD design.

The stock shafts are the Project X Denali Black Frost 60 and Mitsubishi Kai’li Dark Waves White 60/Blue 60. The stock grip is the SuperStroke Crossline 360. Custom options are available.

The Performance

In the sections that follow, I’ll talk about my experience with the OPTM LS driver. Let’s jump right in.

Distance

There are few surprises here. Ball speed, clubhead speed, and smash factor have a slight edge over the X model — ball speeds, in particular, are around 0.4-0.5 mph higher on average.

However, ball speeds are around 0.7 mph lower than with the DS-ADAPT LS. While I expected this going into the test given the more forgiving design, very fast swingers and pros will probably not get the “uber” penetration and distance that they seek.

Nonetheless, the OPTM LS has the potential to be the longest driver in the OPTM family and can be a distance game-changer for those who have the right swing.

Forgiveness

The OPTM LS is definitely one of the most forgiving low-spin drivers I’ve ever played.

With the heavier weight in the back, ball speed retention and directional forgiveness are not far behind the X model. Dispersions, in particular, are impressive.

With the heavier weight in any of the other ports, there’s still a very respectable amount of forgiveness at play. You can feel the stability through impact.

Flight & Playability

The OPTM LS driver tends to produce a low-mid trajectory. Launch angles are only marginally lower than the OPTM X, but spin is significantly lower by about 300 RPMs.

With the heavier weight forward, you can achieve some very low spin with great performance in windy conditions.

When experimenting with the position of the 11g weight, I found that this driver was capable of a stronger fade bias than a draw bias. This makes sense given that one of the ports is much closer to the extreme end of the toe than vice versa, and of course, players who use the LS are more likely to benefit from a fade bias.

Workability is good, but not quite as good as I was hoping for. It’s a casualty of the added forgiveness, I suppose, but the best players in the world may want more ball flight control off the tee.

The Look

The OPTM LS driver has a more traditional pear shape that is less triangular and less stretched than the X model. In fact, it has a touch of a pear shape with significantly less heft towards the heel side.

The LS stays true to the OPTM’s dark theme with detailing in various monochromatic shades, but unlike its sister models, it doesn’t sport any coloured accents, which adds some maturity to the overall aesthetic.

Note the high-gloss crown which contrasts with the matte finish of the DS-ADAPT LS. There is also a somewhat subtle carbon fiber texturing on the sole.

One weight port is located at the very back of the club, hidden on a side ridge. Two more weight ports sit in the heel and toe areas of the sole.

Despite the fact that the OPTM LS has many physical features you would expect from a low-spin driver, it’s still a 460 cc head, and it’s not a drastic visual departure from the X or even the MAX-K.

The Sound & Feel

The sound of the OPTM LS driver at impact has a similar pitch to the X model. It’s tight and somewhat muted, with medium loudness. By my ear, there is nothing about the sound that clearly sets the LS apart from its sister models.

The feel is solid and responsive. Often times, low-spin drivers feel like a rocket when you hit the sweet spot; the OPTM LS is no exception, but I find that feeling to be not quite as intense compared to drivers like the Callaway Quantum TD and TaylorMade Qi4D LS.

Sound and feel hold up impressively well for a low-spin driver. At the same time, there is good feedback through the hands, so you can discern with pretty good clarity where you make contact on the face.

Final Thoughts

The Cobra OPTM LS is a solid low-spin driver with distance, forgiveness, playability, and robust adjustability.

Compared to last year’s model, the OTPM LS moves in the direction of more forgiveness, with slightly higher spin rates. It’s a bit different, but for those who already own the DS-ADAPT LS, it’s probably not worth the upgrade if you’re looking for objective improvements in distance.

By the same token, because of how forgiving the OPTM LS is as far as low-spin drivers go, it’s accessible to players across the skill spectrum. This is not a driver reserved exclusively for 110+ mph swing speeds.
