FlightScope’s Mevo Gen2 launch monitor is a modern update to the popular and successful Mevo+ launch monitor, which originally launched in 2020.
Benefiting from Fusion Tracking technology, a new hardware design, and enhanced accuracy, it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, measures an array of data points, and comes with simulation software out of the box — all at a much more affordable price point.
In this FlightScope Mevo Gen2 review, I’ll take an in-depth look at the launch monitor. I’ll look not only at how well it measures ball and swing data, but also at its usability and simulation capabilities.
How does the Mevo Gen2 perform? How does it compare to the Mevo+ and other well-known launch monitors that are on the market today? Is it worth getting if you’re looking for a quality golf simulation experience?
Here’s what I’m going to be covering in the review:

Note: In the majority of cases, launch monitors tested on Golfstead are acquired temporarily and are not purchased. The review that follows is based on personal experience and research. Although the author makes every effort to ensure proper setup of the device and do direct comparisons with other launch monitors when possible, there are many variables that can affect data readings and performance. Therefore, exact results with a particular launch monitor may differ from person to person.
What is the Mevo Gen2?
The Mevo Gen2 is a radar-based launch monitor that tracks an array of club and ball data parameters.
Lightweight and portable, it’s powered by FlightScope’s Fusion Tracking Technology which combines 3D Doppler Radar with synchronized image processing to deliver high accuracy and reliability.
The Mevo Gen2 can be considered the next generation of the Mevo Plus (Mevo+). It has much in common with the Mevo+, but its main differences are:
- upgraded hardware
- enhanced accuracy
- a new vertical-style form factor
- a longer battery life
While the Mevo Gen2 isn’t currently compatible with the Face Impact Location or Pro Package add-ons, its release price is $1000 less than what the Mevo+ was priced at when it launched. It is also expected that these add-ons will be usable with the Mevo Gen2 in the future.
This system comes with eight E6 CONNECT courses out of the box, and there are no ongoing subscriptions or fees apart from those related to third-party software that you may decide to use.
“MEVO” stands for measure, evaluate, visualize and optimize. The Mevo Gen2 works equally well indoors and outdoors, but it requires a certain amount of space behind the golfer to work properly, and this can be more difficult to achieve indoors.
Setting Up The Mevo Gen2
The Mevo Gen2 launch monitor comes with a carrying case, power supply, USB charging cable, and reflective aluminum stickers.
Setup is very similar to the Mevo Plus. The basic steps are:
- Download the FS Golf app on your mobile device. You can scan the QR code on the bottom of the box to get to the app install page right away.
- Create a FlightScope Cloud account in the app if you don’t already have one.
- Power on the unit for the first time.
- Within the FS Golf app, scan the QR code on the back of the unit to connect the radar to your mobile device.
- Register your device and set up your session.
- Open the kickstand on the unit.
Connecting third-party software will require additional steps depending on the software in question.
Hitting Area & Positioning
The Mevo Gen2 unit must be placed approximately 8 feet behind the ball position. If playing indoors in a limited-flight environment, a minimum of 8 feet of ball flight is needed before the ball makes contact with the net or screen. The camera on the front of the Mevo Gen2 should line up with your target line.
Also ensure that the hitting surface (mat) is no more than three inches higher than the bottom of the Mevo Gen2 unit. Ideally, the unit should be resting on the ground with a level surface between the unit and the hitting mat.
Additional Notes
- when playing indoors (in a limited-flight setup), Titleist RCT balls or aluminum stickers must be used in order to get accurate spin measurements. For the latter method, simply apply one sticker to your ball and make sure the sticker faces the target when hitting.
- RCT balls and aluminum stickers should not be used when putting
- avoid exposing the Mevo Gen2 unit to moisture, direct heat, or excessive weight
- the area between the ball and Mevo Gen2 should be clear of objects and people
- extremely low and wide shots may not register
- noisy electronic devices such as fans and air conditioning units can interfere with tracking and should be kept behind the unit when the launch monitor is in use
- the battery lasts up to six hours on a full charge and up to six hours in simulator play
- the internal camera can be used to record video
Keep in mind that you’ll need to connect your mobile device to the Mevo Gen2 via Wi-Fi, so if your device has no cellular data, you won’t be able to access the Internet at the same time.
For more detailed setup instructions, information, and tips, see the Mevo Gen2 user manual.
Parameters, Features & Accuracy

FS Golf App
FS Golf (Android or iOS) is the primary app that is used with the Mevo Gen2. Some key features of this beefy, feature-rich app include (but are not limited to):
- the ability to view your shot trajectories (top, side or 3D)
- smartphone video recording with shot tracer and customizable data overlay
- video clip drawing and sharing
- the ability to group and review shots by club
- the ability to set margins for data points (results are highlighted green when within the range and red when outside the range)
- the ability to view club averages
- create customized skills challenges and participate in competitions like Long Drive
- work on your swing mechanics and speed, without hitting a ball, in a dedicated Swing Training mode
The app allows you to have informative practice sessions without paying extra for a simulation software plan.
FS Golf PC Software
The FS Golf software for PC is included with the Mevo Gen2.
This highly customizable, flexible software allows you to perform a complete analysis of your sessions with trajectory views, radar data, 3D D-Plane animations and acceleration profiles. The presentation of this data can be conveniently customized and viewed in one screen at a glance.
You can also:
- view your data for every shot in tabular form with standard deviations and averages
- arrange two of your favourite views in side-by-side split format
Minimum PC specs to run the FS Golf software include 8 GB of RAM, an i5 processor, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 video card or equivalent.
FS Skills App
FS Skills (Android or iOS) is another app compatible with the Mevo Gen2. It allows golfers to test their skills by hitting shots to a series of virtual targets.
Each shot is given a score based on the distance to the center of the target, and after all targets are presented, an overall session score is given.
Users have flexible customization control over various aspects of the targets, and a time limit can be added as well.
E6 CONNECT 8-Course Bundle
The Mevo Gen2 comes bundled with a trimmed version of E6 CONNECT consisting of eight famous golf courses:
- Ocean Course at Kiawah Island
- Torrey Pines South Course
- Plantation Course at Kapalua Golf
- Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club
- Real Club Valderrama
- Latrobe Country Club
- Sea Island Seaside Course
- Pelican Hill Golf Club
These courses can be played on PC or iOS.
Accuracy
FlightScope states in their marketing that the Mevo Gen2 has “enhanced accuracy”, but I’m not sure what that’s relative to.
I would assume it’s the Mevo+, so although you can’t do direct comparisons between the two devices given their positioning requirements, I did separate sessions for each in order to compare.
To be completely honest, the Mevo Gen2 doesn’t stand out to me as having significantly better accuracy than the Mevo+. Apart from spin, angle of attack, and launch angle, which I felt were a little more reflective of reality with the Mevo Gen2, all of the other data points are very similar.
Having said that, the data readings are impressively reliable and consistent. I hit over 100 shots during my test, and there were no significant mis-reads. In addition, I find the shot tracers to be pretty spot-on, and putting performance is better than the Mevo+.
The overall accuracy of the Mevo Gen2 is very good—not quite on the level of a top-tier system like the X3C, particularly in edge cases such as very short shots, but the difference for most people will be inconsequential.
Simulation Options
Beyond FlightScope’s in-house apps and software, the Mevo Gen2 launch monitor officially supports golf simulation with third-party solutions E6 CONNECT, E6 APEX, GSPro, Creative Golf, and Awesome Golf.
E6 CONNECT
E6 CONNECT is top-tier golf simulation software known for its quality and diverse range of features.
It comes bundled with the Mevo Gen2 in the form of a trimmed version for iOS and PC that includes eight prestigious golf courses.
Beyond this, you can purchase the full version of E6 CONNECT for PC. This will give you access to the full gamut of features including:
- a full driving range and practice area
- full course play
- tournament play and online events
- an array of multiplayer formats
- flexible gameplay settings (mulligans, wind, weather, etc.)
- minigames including Long Drive and Closest To The Pin
With an Expanded Subscription to E6 CONNECT, you get over 68 additional courses to play (100+ total).
E6 APEX
APEX is the latest iteration of TruGolf’s E6 software. This next-generation solution succeeds the tried-and-true E6 CONNECT with significantly improved graphics.
E6 APEX places more emphasis on game improvement and data analysis than E6 CONNECT does. While course play is now available with over 30,000 courses at 4K resolution, the software is limited to solo play and local multiplayer and lacks online play at the moment.
Courses on E6 APEX are rendered using vertical LiDAR data and GPS mapping. Its main features include:
- Practice: choose from a wide variety of ranges and get detailed feedback and data on each shot
- Course Play: play a course of your choosing alone or with other players locally
- Challenges: quick minigames (putting, approach, scrambling, etc.) for game improvement
- Bag Mapping: identify your average distances and dispersion patterns for every club in your bag
- Club Fitting: detailed session analytics designed for club fitters
The software has other cool features too, such as access to special video tips from golf instructors, with more being added over time. The software is offered in several subscription packages that unlock more of these features.
I think E6 APEX is excellent software and a clear step up from E6 CONNECT. If it ever gets online play, it will safely be able to replace E6 CONNECT to become TruGolf’s software of choice.
GSPro
In most golfing communities today, the general consensus is that GSPro is the best third-party software to use for golf simulators.
Designed to be ultra-realistic with advanced ball physics and 4K graphics, what makes GSPro unique is its integration with the Open Platform Course Designer (OPCD), which allows anyone, regardless of skillset, to create courses that can be played by members of the GSPro community.
In addition, GSPro integrates with Simulator Golf Tour (SGT), a service that allows players to participate in virtual golf tours with weekly tournaments. You can even compete in the PGA Tour schedule.
Aside from the large community that is constantly building new courses (well over 1000 are currently available) and playing in tournaments, GSPro offers:
- lifelike 4K graphics built with the Unity engine
- an OpenAPI interface
- a driving range and on-course practice
- full course play (with flyovers)
In my view, GSPro isn’t as suitable for tech-challenged golfers as other software, although you can keep yourself very busy with the practice and local play modes without getting involved in the community stuff.
Creative Golf
Creative Golf is a software that is focused not so much on hyperrealism (although the graphics are great with the new Advanced version of the software), but more on family-friendly entertainment.
The core version of Creative Golf contains over 200 real, reproduced golf courses from around the world. If you want, you can “supercharge” it with the Golfisimo software which adds a host of cute, entertaining games for children and non-golfers.
The software is now available in an Advanced version which significantly improves the graphics, introduces a new, modern UI, and adds many new quality-of-life features such as on-course markers.
Modes in Creative Golf include course play, driving range practice, multi-player practice, club fitting, chipping and putting, tournaments, and local events. If you also own Golfisimo, there will be a dedicated Golfisimo section on the main menu; from there, you can access fun games like darts, tic tac toe, bridges, and battlefield.
For golfers looking for a more affordable third-party software option, Creative Golf and Golfisimo can be excellent choices.
Awesome Golf
Awesome Golf is a software that has a distinct cartoon art style and is heavily focused on fun and entertainment with friends, family and children. It’s also one of the most affordable third-party solutions for the Mevo Gen2.
Awesome Golf has four main modes:
- Range: informative practice sessions and an in-depth analysis of every shot.
- Challenges: closest to the pin, long drive, target golf, and skills challenge.
- Shootouts: kid-friendly minigames including Super Splash and Boat Blast.
- Virtual Golf: full course play at four fictional courses in varied environments.
The software also comes with a community app that allows you to register yourself as a user, get access to in-depth stats from your sessions, and participate in leaderboards for challenges & shootouts.
Awesome Golf doesn’t recreate real-life courses but it’s packed with fun simulation features that will keep you busy for hours on end. The software is currently available for PC, iOS and Android, and licenses are multi-platform.
Pricing & Plans
The Mevo Gen2 launch monitor costs $1299 USD.
It’s equipped with Fusion Tracking and comes bundled with the FS Golf PC software and a trimmed version of E6 CONNECT (iOS or PC) that includes eight golf courses. Compatible apps FS Golf and FS Skills are free to use.
Here are the current prices (subject to change) associated with the third-party software options that are compatible with the Mevo Gen2:
- E6 CONNECT: $300/year (basic) or $600/year (expanded) or $2500 one time
- E6 APEX: $150/year (Improve) or $300/year (Play) or $450/year (Enjoy)
- GSPro: $250/year
- Creative Golf: $500 (or $200/yr) for CG, $300 (or $150/year) for Golfisimo
- Awesome Golf: $14.99/month or $159.99/year or $349.99 one time
Generally speaking, I recommend golfers grab GSPro with the Mevo Gen2 (and with most other launch monitors that support it). This is amazing software that is currently in its third version.
Where To Buy The Mevo Gen2 Online
If you’re looking online, some of the best places I would recommend to order the Mevo Gen2 launch monitor are:
You can choose any of these sellers based on your preferences. They all have excellent support teams that will help you with any questions or concerns you may have.
Another thing that’s worth considering if you plan to use the Mevo Gen2 indoors is a good simulator setup with components such as nets, hitting mats, impact screens, enclosures and projectors. A great example is the Mevo Gen2 PlayBetter SimStudio.
Final Thoughts
Aside from the current lack of Pro Package and Face Impact Location add-ons, which provide an extra handful of club parameters and precise face impact location data, the FlightScope Mevo Gen2 launch monitor matches or outclasses the Mevo+ in pretty much every way.
This is a versatile consumer-level launch monitor that allows golfers to get similar accuracy and reliability to professional systems for less than $1500.
The accuracy is superb, you can use it both indoors and outdoors, the battery life is significantly improved, it comes with very good simulation and analysis features out-of-the-box, and it’s compatible with a range of third-party simulator software.
Moreover, the Mevo Gen2 is expected to gain Pro Package and Face Impact Location add-on compatibility at some point in the future, and at that point, the Mevo+ will become fully obsolete.
Just keep in mind that you need a minimum of 8 feet of space behind and in front of you for correct setup.
If you’re interested in the Mevo Gen2 but are on the fence, I suggest you get off that fence and give it a try now!
