In this review, I’ll be taking a look at the PXG Lightning Max 10K+ driver.
The Lightning Max 10K+ is the max-forgiveness model in PXG’s Lightning family of drivers. This versatile driver is built for extreme power, forgiveness and stability, featuring innovations that unlock the best performance of any PXG driver yet.
Not only does the Lightning Max 10K+ hit the 10K MOI threshold (10000g/cm²), leading to forgiveness that rivals the most forgiving drivers ever released on the market from PING, TaylorMade and others, but it also benefits from a significant boost in ball speed over the previous-generation Black Ops thanks to new tech that includes a Frequency Tuned Face and Spined Sole.
How does the Lightning Max 10K+ actually perform when put to the test? How does it compare to the Black Ops? Who is it best suited for? Is it worth putting in the bag?

What are the reviews like?

The Features
With the PXG Lightning Max 10K+ driver, a proprietary face curvature helps maintain shot shape, control and performance on off-center hits.
Technologies include:
- Frequency Tuned Face: built to vibrate in sync with the precise moment of impact. The result is more energy transfer and new gains in ball speed and distance.
- Spined Sole: this sole design consists of a stiffening ridge or “backbone” across the face of the clubhead, helping the clubhead stay more rigid through impact for increased energy transfer, stability, and ball speed.
- Precision Weighting: three weights (two 2.5g and one 15g) are strategically placed in the perimeter of the clubhead and anchored to the outer wall. These weights, available from 2.5g to 20g, are interchangeable and can be used to alter shot bias, spin and stability.
- Carbon Fiber Crown & Sole: the crown and sole inserts are made of a high-strength, high-grade carbon fiber pre-preg that is just 0.03″ thick, with up to 84% more surface area coverage than the Black Ops. This allows for weight savings which are redistributed to the perimeter of the clubhead, optimizing CG and launch conditions, increasing MOI, and improving forgiveness.
Stock Info
The Lightning Max 10K+ driver is available in 9°, 10.5°, and 12° standard lofts at 460 CC.
Included is a lightweight adjustable hosel that allows you to adjust loft and lie. There are numerous configurations that allow you to change the loft by ±1.5° and introduce a 2° or 3° flat lie angle. Hence, this adapter can be used to introduce a fade bias to your ball flight.

The Performance
In the sections that follow, I’ll talk about my experience with the Lightning Max 10K+ driver. Let’s jump right in.
Distance
During my field test, I was indeed experiencing an increase in ball speeds over the Black Ops of around 1.6 mph. On average, this translated to around six additional yards of carry for me.
It’s always great to see an increase in ball speed over the previous generation, even a small one, without other aspects of performance being sacrificed, and the Lightning Max 10K+ pulls it off.
Forgiveness
While the forgiveness of the Black Ops was very strong, PXG manages to take it to a new level with the Lightning Max 10K+.
Of course, the difference isn’t earthshattering, which you would expect at these levels of performance. But I found during my test that dispersions and ball speed retention were marginally improved.
In fact, I can say that no other 2026 driver I’ve tested surpasses the Lightning Max 10K+ in overall forgiveness. If you want to stay in the fairway, this driver is your best chance to make it happen.
Flight & Playability
Typical trajectories with the Lightning Max 10K+ driver are mid-high, with mid spin.
While ball speeds are impressive, it became clear to me that the driver wasn’t designed for workability, maximum distance off the tee, or a truly piercing ball flight.
If you’re not satisfied with your ball flight, I suggest experimenting with the weights. For example, putting comparatively more weight in the front can get the flight and spin down, at the cost of a bit of forgiveness. You can also concentrate more weight towards the heel for a draw bias.
A full weight kit for PXG metal woods is available, with weights ranging from 5g to 20g.
The Look
The Lightning Max 10K+ driver features a large, rounded, confidence-inspiring profile built for maximum MOI.
It has the same monochrome scheme that is the signature of PXG clubs, along with the premium construction you would expect. Like the previous-generation Black Ops, the crown has a glossy finish, while the profile is even more stretched from front to back.
The increased carbon fiber coverage is also apparent, with slightly more on the crown and significantly more on the sole. Branding and text is concentrated around the perimeter, which helps put the focus on the Spined Sole.
The Spined Sole is quite prominent and makes the Lightning Max 10K+ appear bulky when looking at the sole directly. What’s nice is that it’s not visible at all from the address perspective, so there are no distractions in that regard.
The Sound & Feel
The first thing to note is that the Lightning Max 10K+ driver has a somewhat sharp, metallic sound at impact. It’s not as muted as many 2026 driver models from other OEMs, and whether it’s good or bad will depend on your personal preference. The amount of reverberation in the feel is similar to the Black Ops.
To a certain extent, though, the sound of the driver belies its feel, because the Lightning Max 10K+ feels quite soft and pure at impact. At the same time, sweet-spot strikes feel solid and highly responsive.
Although this is one of the best-feeling PXG drivers I’ve played, I don’t really see an improvement over the Black Ops on this front. I’m not saying you should expect one, but take it for what it’s worth.

Final Thoughts
PXG’s Lightning Max 10K+ driver is an extremely strong contender in the game-improvement space for 2026.
It’s significantly faster off the face and produces more ball speed than its predecessor, the Black Ops. On top of this, the forgiveness is the best in the business.
Typically, adjustability is sacrificed in the most forgiving drivers, but the Lightning Max 10K+ has a robust adjustable weighting system that allows you to dial in your best ball flight.
While the sound and feel may not be everyone’s cup of tea, when you put all this together, it’s really the complete game-improvement package.
