In this review, I’ll take a comprehensive look at the Cobra 2024 AIR-X hybrid, also referred to as the AIR-X 2 hybrid.
Like the other clubs in Cobra’s AIR-X line, the 2024 AIR-X hybrid is marked by a lightweight design which helps slower swingers generate more clubhead speed, launch, and distance. The 2024 model of the AIR-X improves upon the original 2022 version with new H.O.T. Face technology designed to give a boost to mis-hit forgiveness.
How does the 2024 AIR-X actually perform when put to the test? How does it compare with the original AIR-X hybrid? Is it worth putting in the bag?
Here’s what will be covered in the review:
Read on to learn what you need to know to make an informed purchase.
Note: Unless otherwise indicated, stock shafts and stock grips are used when evaluating clubs and the 4H is evaluated in the case of hybrids. In most cases, the golf clubs reviewed on Golfstead are acquired temporarily for testing purposes and are not purchased. The review that follows is based on the personal experience and research of the author. Because everyone’s swing and body are different, results with a particular club may differ from person to person.
What are the reviews like?

The Features
With the 2024 model of the AIR-X hybrid, Cobra brings over the A.I. H.O.T. Face found in their AEROJET line of clubs.
The idea behind the H.O.T. (“Highly Optimized Topology”) face insert is similar to innovations from other brands such as Callaway’s A.I. Flash Face.
Using machine-learned data from thousands of impact simulations, the thickness of the face is optimized in multiple locations through CNC machining. The result of this variable thickness is better optimized spin and increased ball speeds across the face, not just in the sweet spot.
Of course, the AIR-X brand is best known for its light weight. This includes a lighter head along with a lightweight stock shaft and grip, which allows slower swingers and players with smooth tempos to increase their clubhead speed and get a better launch.
With the 2024 AIR-X hybrid, you have heel weighting designed to introduce a draw bias and help mitigate the right miss. This is complemented by an offset hosel, which further encourages a draw shot shape and makes the club easier to hit.

The Performance
In the sections that follow, I’ll talk about my experience with the 2024 AIR-X hybrid. Let’s jump in.
Distance
I was pleased to see that I was getting about 1-2 mph more clubhead speed with the 2024 AIR-X hybrid compared to the 2022 model. I can’t say why, but for whatever reason, I was able to generate a little more speed through the swing.
In addition, I was seeing slightly better ball speed (around 2 mph on average) thanks to the H.O.T. Face.
As a result of all this, distances ended up being about 7-12 yards greater, with no loss in stopping power into greens given that the spin is about the same as the original AIR-X. It’s pretty much all gain and no loss as far as hybrids go.
Having said this, whether you’ll see increased distance over your current gamer will depend on if this hybrid allows you to pick up additional clubhead speed and get a more optimal launch.
Forgiveness
The 2024 AIR-X hybrid is very forgiving overall and typically what you would expect from a game-improvement club.
As with the 2024 AIR-X driver and fairway wood, I found ball speed preservation on mis-hits (in the heel and toe regions) to be better than the 2022 model. This was most apparent in the toe region; in this particular case, I saw a comparative gain of around 5 yards.
Dispersions are about the same as the 2022 model.
Playability/Trajectory
The 2024 AIR-X hybrid tends to produce a high trajectory with mid spin.
The heel weighting combined with offset gives this club a pretty substantial draw bias, so if you naturally hit a straight or draw shot shape, you may have to make compensations in your swing to get the ball flight you want.
The 2024 AIR-X hybrid is incredibly easy to get up in the air and feels so effortless to swing, making it an ideal choice for many seniors and beginners. At the same time, it’s playable out of a variety of lies.
For those looking for more control over their ball, long irons are automatically the better choice, but as far as hybrids go, workability is below average.
The Look
I think the overall aesthetic design of the 2024 AIR-X fits the hybrid better than the driver and fairway wood.
This club has great bag appeal, with a sleek matte black finish and tasteful red accents throughout. The shape of the head is very similar to the original AIR-X.
The 2024 AIR-X hybrid also has a shallow face which will help with getting clean contact off the fairway and in the rough. The club appears to sit slightly closed at address.
The Sound & Feel
The 2024 AIR-X hybrid feels just as lightweight and easy to swing as the 2022 model. As I’ve said in my other AIR-X reviews, I wouldn’t really game lightweight clubs like this personally, but it does feel very easy to put speed into the shot which should really help seniors in particular.
The one word that immediately came to mind when hitting this hybrid was “solid”. Impact produces a crisp, satisfying, medium-pitched “thwack” that has a decent amount of responsiveness behind it — more than the original model.
Consistency in sound and feel across the face is very good overall. You should be able to discern the general area of impact, but at the same time, mis-hits are not excessively punishing. Turf interaction is acceptable.
Where To Buy This Hybrid Online

Final Thoughts
I consider the Cobra 2024 AIR-X hybrid to be unquestionably one of the best long-iron replacements for seniors or beginner golfers on the market.
This club either matches or outclasses the original AIR-X, with great distance and forgiveness, a high launch, and a draw bias that helps take the right side of the course out of play. It feels almost effortless to generate clubhead speed, and trajectories are high enough for ample stopping power into the greens.
Best of all, the easy-to-hit 2024 AIR-X hybrid is more affordable than most other hybrids on the market, so it will be within reach for most golfers.
